Accepting the Challenge

by: Stan Prachniak

You have probably experienced some things in your life that you felt like you just couldn’t do. When faced with these challenging situations, did you decide to give up or did you choose persist and succeed? If you chose to give up, think for a moment about why you decided to do so and how it impacted your life both in that moment and in the future.

We have all been there before, whether it was something small and seemingly insignificant, or something that we thought was a big deal, we were faced with accepting a challenge or giving up. When feelings of helplessness begin to creep in, it often seems easier to stop trying and just give up. The reality is that it may be easier in that moment to quit, but that decision in that moment will impact future situations. If you stop trying in any given moment, it will become easier for you to do the same the next time you are faced with a challenge. Over time, if you continue this pattern of behavior, you will form a habit of taking the path of least resistance.

We are wired to take the path of least resistance because we are constantly striving to make our lives easier and more pleasurable. It’s easy to tell yourself that you can’t do something challenging because proving yourself wrong will take effort. But, if we challenge ourselves in these moments we can discover who we are and what we can accomplish. Difficult situations can help us discover our true self and help us uncover a path in life that we may have never known existed.

Freedom To Change offers a way for you to learn to accept the challenges you face in life and how to uncover your true self and true path. For more information on the Freedom To Change materials, visit www.freedom2change.org.
